Theodore “Theo” Wildanger was a gifted storyteller whose language was paint. Born in France and later living in Virginia, he expressed the beauty and mystery of life through vibrant flowers, lyrical landscapes, expressive figures, and evocative abstracts. His work often carries the dreamlike spirit of Chagall while remaining unmistakably his own.
Flowers were one of Theo’s favorite subjects—sometimes familiar, sometimes almost abstract—painted with the ease and rhythm of a musician practicing scales. Yet when a deeper story took shape in his mind, he worked with remarkable intensity, creating powerful series such as Chaos, the Elam paintings, and the Texas collection.
Theo’s early life and artistic journey are beautifully captured in Jim Kincaid’s books Theo and Anna’s Eyes.
This website celebrates his legacy and invites you to explore, enjoy, and—if a piece speaks to you—welcome a Theo Wildanger original into your own collection.
